Lead with proof in the inbox

· AI & Business · Robb Schrader

A lot of contractors and shop owners will ignore a cold call. Fewer of them ignore a finished sample of the work with their own name on it.

The pattern worth stealing is simple: show the outcome first, put a real clock on the preview if you have one, and keep the next step in writing — DMs or email — instead of forcing a Zoom. AI builders make a first-pass site or listing cleanup cheap enough that the “sample” can be real, not vaporware. The conversation after they open it is where trust and retainers live: hosting, updates, reviews, rankings, lead alerts to their phone.

What that means for us

If we help roofing, HVAC, plumbing, remodel, or restaurants, we can:

  • Offer a concrete before/after (site, GBP, review ask flow) instead of “let’s hop on a call”
  • Explain the three jobs in plain English: get found, get trusted, get the phone to ring
  • Own follow-through so the sample does not die on a temporary link
  • Wire leads so a form or missed call becomes a text the owner actually sees

What we can do this week

  • Pick one niche group (local Facebook / Nextdoor style) and write one honest offer: a free sample tied to a real deliverable, not a bait-and-switch.
  • Build one demo with an AI site/listing helper for a business that already has a Google profile — time how long it really takes.
  • Write the DM sequence in advance: here’s the preview → here’s how to keep it → here’s the monthly outcome (reviews, rankings, site care) — no voice note required.
  • Prove it on ourselves. If we sell clarity and fast follow-up, our own site and reply time should already show it.

Calls still have a place. They are not the only door. Sometimes the inbox is enough.
